A water chiller is a mechanical system designed to cool water by removing heat from it, and then circulate this chilled water to various applications that require temperature control. Water chillers are commonly used in industrial, commercial, and residential settings to maintain optimal temperature conditions for processes, equipment, or living spaces. These systems work on the principle of heat exchange, utilizing a refrigeration cycle to cool water to a desired temperature.
How Water Chillers Work:Water chillers typically operate using a closed-loop refrigeration cycle, which involves the following stages:
- Compression: A refrigerant gas is compressed, raising its pressure and temperature.
- Condensation: The hot refrigerant gas passes through condenser coils, where it releases its heat to the surrounding air or water, causing it to cool and condense into a liquid.
- Expansion: The cooled liquid refrigerant is then expanded, causing its pressure to drop and resulting in a drop in temperature.
- Evaporation: The low-pressure, cold refrigerant is passed through evaporator coils, where it absorbs heat from the water passing over the coils, cooling the water.
- Re-circulation: The now-warmed refrigerant returns to the compressor, and the cycle repeats.
